OK, so I just admitted publicly that I irritate people without a clue why. So here's one of them posts that go "is it me or them", "is it BP or just me", and the works. With just the shear number of occurrences, one would think it's me, but sometimes I really don't see how. WHAT AM I MISSING?
Last year I went to a research conference that is supposed to be fully covered by my University. What I've done the previous six years was take per diem reimbursement, stay in a cheap hotel, and keep the rest of the money. Other people in my lab would go to 4- and 5-star hotels, which are much more expensive, and the University pays for their stay fully - sometimes 20-30% more than the money I get. They can't keep any money though, because they're over their per diem.
Last year, I was in a serious pit, and couldn't get myself together to file until 7 months later. The University doesn't know that I'm ill. I also stayed with a friend who took my husband and daughter in, and cooked for us, so I had no hotel receipt this year. I never needed it before, so I wasn't concerned.
Four months later, I ask how the reimbursement's going, and this happens: The grant administrator refers me up to her boss. The policy changed, and they now require hotel receipts to prove there was an expense. She'll talk to the Department Chair, and get back to me. Ugh. I'm out ~$1000-$1500. Do I get upset? No. I've got bigger fish to fry, what with not being able to work for months and fearing for my job and all. (Which the administration does not know about yet.) Do I lose it at this woman for imposing this year's policy on last year's expense? No. But I do get a message from my boss, who says that the Department Chair - no less - emailed him, and that he's not happy, and that I should drop the thing. WTF? I wasn't even bugging anyone about it. They kept it around for four months, and I only asked about it twice during that time.
So what am I missing?

So in this particular case, I may have gotten caught in the crossfire of stuff that doesn't relate to me. Doesn't that make you pissed? I'm out of my money, plus the guy who approves my reappointments and raises is pissed at me, and there is nothing I did wrong and nothing I could have done to prevent that.
How about every other case before? Am I just too oblivious to the regular daily politics of life? This is the second time I'm asking myself: "Should I be in the Asperger's group instead?". :)) I'll make a different thread for that question.
