After some advice, a few years ago my partner was diagnosed with bipolar, she was put on meds that helped, then psych wanted to switch her, and messed up, resulting in her have a major depression episode, we got her stable and she has been stable for 2 years now.
Today she has just scared the hell out of me......she said she wanted to talk about her medication. I said what about it, and she said she wants to come off it and try homoeopathy.
She also has arthritis and peripheral neuropathy, and I thought she meant just for these, so asked her, and she said no everything.......I said I wouldn't advise coming off her bipolar meds, and she said that's the one's she wanted to come off the most, as they make her so tired all the time.
Some time ago she did try homoeopathy for her arthritis and depression (before bipolar diagnosis), and they worked for about 6-8 months, then things got worse and she ended back on traditional medication, and the one's she was on before she tried the alternative no longer worked and it took some time to find one's that did.
She is hoping to go to Uni in September to train to be a children's nurse, the fact she has been stable for 2 years, means she can, if she has another blip now, then that is the end of uni......for the time being, but she doesn't seem to understand that.....she said it's because of uni that she wants to come off them, as she doesn't want to be so tired all the time......
Has anyone else used homoeopathy to control their bipolar? has it worked? etc........after some information and advice on this, as it scares the hell out of me, the thought of her coming off it, and if the homoeopathy doesn't work, the consequences of that. I know I might seem to be selfish when I say this, but I can't go through 2 years ago again........
Thanks

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

There are a minority of people that are "off meds" (as in the traditional ones). A much larger number have tried with not good consequences.
A major life change is a possible trigger. Coming off meds can in itself precipitate a more severe episode.
Basically I think you are right to worry.
Do you know what she is on? It maybe she's not on anything that might cause this reaction.
Do you know why she wants to go for homeopathy?
Methotrexate for the arthritis
Depakote as a mood stabiliser
Pregablin as a mood stabiliser and for her peripheral neuropathy
Cymbalta to treat the depression side of it
Etoricoxib for the arthritis
Folic Acid - to combat the methotrexate
Infliximab infusion for the arthritis
Levothyroxine - to treat hypothyroidism
think that is about it.......at least 4 of these cause side effects of tiredness.............
She just wants to try homeopathy, as she feels that won't cause tiredness, she is just fed up with being tired all the time......
If' she is too tired for uni then now is not the right time to go. I'm sorry I know what it's like I tried the whole college thing and it didn't work out for me either because of psych meds.
There is no scientific research to support that homeopathy works. You might as well be asking for witch craft and crossing your fingers.
I know there are some members off meds. But in my experience most of them only think they are well. If you spend any amount of time talking with them you start to realize that.
