I am completely depressed and anxious. I obsessing over something that happened last night.
My 17 yr old son and I came back home from having dinner. The apartment complex we live in is large but parking is hard to find after 6pm. His grandma takes the assigned spot and we find an unnumbered one. There was a parallel spot between 2 other vehicles I thought I could get into. I don't parallel park often and I drive a compact car. My son got out and was directing me into the space. He looked away for a bit and accidentally bumped the car behind me.
We looked at the car and mine. I'm pretty sure I just tapped the license plate. There was no damage. We decided at the moment since there no damage there was no need to leave a note. Of coarse this got me thinking. Maybe I should leave on anyway. I asked his grandma what she thought. She said I didn't need to leave a note in this case. I looked at discussions on this on the internet and options are mixed.
If this deemed a hit and run, I could get in big trouble. Someone would have to of reported it though and I don't there was anyone besides us.
My family said to stop worrying and forget it. I'm just worried I will be looking over my shoulder all time. I'm afraid the owner will be greedy and try scam me. I don't want to look like a jerk. I don't want my family to be mad at me if I do go a leave a note.
I don't need stress like this. I feel like don't know what I am doing.

I once tapped someone when parallel parking right outside of my building, looked at his car and didn't see any damage, and went inside my apartment without leaving a note. 5 minutes later there was a knock on the door and a very scared looking man saying he had witnesses that I had hit his car. At that point I decided my best option was to woman up and take responsibility, so I apologized, went out there, and gave him my insurance card. The car insurance took care of it and now that headache is forgotten.
I will definitely be more careful when parallel parking though. i would say if the night has passed and no one has knocked on your door you are probably okay. I know it's stressful though.
Have faith in mankind that not everyone is a money-grubbing scammer. I would contact the owner so my conscience would be clear.
