…had a record collection.

As Thor said, contact SS and have part of your check deposited into a Savings Account that has limited withdrawals that charge you money. Out of sight out of mind. They can direct deposit your check into multiple accounts of different amounts.
I would make a budget for yourself
Rent, other bills, food, savings etc and then think about what's left at the end if you want to buy yourself something you can afford.... Then you'll enjoy it.... Big hug.....xo
I wonder if you could write down each day, as a reminder and afermation, pat yourself on the back...that you didn't spend $$....and when you do spend, rent, bills, food etc, write that too...extras, track your spending....kind of like a spread sheet only a lot easier.
I get my pension on the first of the month, then social security on t he 3rd....I've set up my billing so most of the bills I have are due prior to the 15th, then others, I have automatic withdrawals...I also have a money journal that I write down all the places that need to be paid monthly, the confirmation number when paid and the amount,,,I keep watch on my checking account to make sure withdrawals are made prior to due date,
Best of luck and good for you to end the credit card problem!!
