if so research has shown they seem to be genetically related - families with bipolar also have schizophrenia and vice versa. There is schizophrenia on both sides of my family tree.
Another possibility is shizoaffective which is sort of both

I am so glad you are seeing the VA doctor soon. For me, diagnosis was the first step to living a more stable life.
