Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I went to a NAMI meeting recently.
One of the beepers there admitted that she doesn't take meds. This really surprised me, since she was the group facilitator. But that's not the point of my question.
Another lady talked about her sister who has schizoaffective disorder. She was a staunch supporter of "natural" remedies. For example, taking L-triptophan (like in turkey) to sleep, or Vitamin D as a seratonin inhibitor.
Personally, I've never had luck with there types of treatments. My body seems to only respond to prescription drugs. Well, even those don't work. Except for Ativan, which knocked me out of my sleepless manias pretty quickly. Of course, my new pdoc doesn't want me taking Ativan. He claims in makes beepers' mood swings worse in the long run.
Any thoughts?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Now l'm a rapid cycler l doubt l could manage a week without meds now. There's nothing wrong with taking the vitamins with your meds and seeing if you can cut back on the med doses over time its my hope.
Something that people generally don't figure is that because things like vitamins are natural they are harmless. They are fine in the small quantities needed (and that has been studied by nutrionists..e.g there were major studies in the UK during the war because our food supplies were cut off from abroad). However when you go above that amount then they can cause problems..and then the liver has to deal with the excess and it can do all sorts of conversions that cause problems.
As an example, not vitamins but if you only eat proteins you get ketosis.
So partly because these things are not properly studied it's a risk. Also, there are concerns about the quality of some of the off the shelf stuff.
That said, I do take fish oil but that possibly more for my joints.
