Hi all, just wanted to share that my stupid, feet-dragging, blow-offing pdoc finally agreed that I do have bipolar. I did not see him personally, not until next week, but my psychologist met with him this morning, and she thinks I am BP, and he agreed with her. He mentioned putting me on mood stabilizers. Yey!

My first reaction was to be so angry at him, for all the anguish he caused me during the past year, for not believing me, and treating me with the wrong drugs. Jerk. It's not like I didn't mention anything. OK, I'm getting worked up again. Breathe...

... But now I'm happy that this phase is over, and that I can look forward to some proper treatment. I am also happy that I was not totally off-base. I'd much rather be bipolar than a delusional hypochondriac without a diagnosis, which is what I was until today.

I am very happy for you too. Congratulations! Now be prepared to be patient as you may have to spend some time discovering what works and in what quantities. Your attitude is fantastic and will help immensley!

Thank you all. As you know, this didn't catch me by surprise. For eight years I've been asking different mental health workers if they think I might be bipolar, and noone really cared to educate or do an assessment. Talk about falling through cracks. I finally lost it and wrote up seven pages of symptoms and took them to my psychologist. That worked. Still, I feel like my doc just agreed with whatever is put before him. I'm begining to think he's just winging it. It's not even a joke.

Anyway, thanks all for nice responses. :)

I know the relief of finally getting the validity from your doc's. Hang in there a little longer and you will find the right med's to help you.

I'm glad to hear your finally being pointed in the right direction, even though you had to do all the pointing. I'd say you're a pretty good advocate for yourself! When my son was born, he was deaf. For 2 and 1/2 years the doctors all said "No, he can hear", so, I had to be a bitch, (as some of them put it). I just doing the right thing by my child, and funny, it turned out that I was right. I didn't want to be, but facts are facts. I was just happy to have a direction to go with him at that point. Good for you on being persistent and standing up for yourself! Now, get on those meds and get to a better place in your head! lol. Love to you and take care of you!

Congratulations! A correct diagnosis is so important. It's wonderful that you can start trying out appropriate meds to see what will help you.

I am very glad you finally got your diagnosis. However, please make sure you understand this is the start of the battle. You will most likely struggle with trying to find the right meds for a while. Unfortunantly there is no test for all this and its a battle of trial and error. I am certainly not trying to ruin your positive energy. I just want to keep you from the heartache of a let down. Keep positive!

Foreal, I know what you mean. I was led astray partially because I guess deep down I wanted to be wrong. I would read on bipolar, and it is this terrible disease, and who wants to have that? I still need to have a kid or two. But eventually, I figured, whatever I have, it is only as bad as it is, and it has been bad. But - labels can't make it worse, and treatment can make it better. That was the turning point for me.
