I take it for nerve pain in my back and neck, about 1200 milligrams a day. Don't notice any difference in moods.

I took it off label for a mood stabablizer and for pain, Unfortunately I did not notice a difference. If you are looking for something for pain from nervers tyr tramadol. Hopo you feel better!!!

Neurontin? I took it for my head pain among others but noticed no positive changes but did notice more and worsening head pain. Head pain is a side and thats just one of the reasons I was taking it in the first place. Good luck with it, I hope it works for you.

I was actually just put on it (Neurontin)same diif.
I was put on it as a mood stabilzer, so am interested in how it works as well. Today is only my 2nd day on it, but I am sleeping better. Interested how you find it. Good luck.

If my trial on tegretol doesn't work, I will try this as an alternative.

I was put on it but it turns out the company that made it about 5 years ago or so was fined for trying to use it as a mood stabilizer. It actually isn't. It is only for nerve pain. Does nothing for mood....was a big scam.

Studies are ongoing for the mood-stabilization of the drug, which is very effective once you reach a blood level. It is also very effective against anxiety and was originally designed as a siezure med (sound familiar?) So, yes the company was told to not label it as a mood-stabilizer, but it will be once the trials are done. It is one of the safest and most effective medications out there as it treats four major problems: Siezures, Mood, Anxiety and Nurogenic damage (it actually repairs this over time.) It is the ONLY mood stabilizer that has had any positive effect for me and no one should discount this drug. It is considered a weak mood-stabilizer by many phsyciatrists, but for patients who can not tolerate the heavier drugs (most of them all - again - originally designed for siezures) this is an excellent choice, not to mention, it does not trash your liver, kidney, give you massive weight gain, cause excessive tiredness nor change heart rhythms or increase your risk for stroke. So, all of you on those 'other' stabilizers with all those side effects, well, in my opinion, they are not worth the physical trade off and damage they cause to your body!

And as far as Xanax and Klonopin being the good stuff, sure, if you want to trash your short-term memory and liver. Since I have been on the Nuerotin, my pain is gone, mood stable, no panic attacks, quit using benzo's, depression lifted and no side-effects. The sleep aid part is very weak, and I have never felt drugged on the med.

Hi Chelle, I take gabapentin( Neurontin). I am on a low dose (300mg a night) to help with pain issues. I have been on it for 9 months. Since it is such a low dose, it really didn't make a dent in the hypomania and the pdoc did not pursue it as a first line med for me. (I was diagnosed after starting it)

However, I am still on it. It does mellow me out at night and that is a good thing. The only side effect I had with it at first drowsiness. Be careful when you drive...

I found this online about gabapentin and BP-- http://psycom.net/depression.central.gabapentin.html It is interesting to note the dosage range -900 mg a day up to 4800 mg a day (divided between 3-4 doses)

I have been taking Neurontin since October---AND I LOVVVVVE IT. I can tell when it's time for my dose because I start getting anxious. It's used "offlable" for anxiety and it also helps with hotflashes!!!! I love love love it!!

My mom also took it for back and neck pain as well, not sure if it worked or not. My pdoc in the hospital gave it to me for sleep and it worked like a charm, can't remember the exact dosage, but it put me out like a light.

I fell and hurt my neck, have two bad discs. I had horrible arm pain and numbness until I took it. It has worked wonderfully. I don't know how I would have gone on without it. The pain was just so bad. It did take a while to kick in though. I take 300mg three times a day. Only thing I notice is working night shift I get a bit groggy in the middle of my shift now. I have to be busy on my feet or I want to nod off. Don't notice it on my off days during the day time just in the middle of the night on my night shift....... Hell, I should be in bed anyway.. lol
