This is the state hospital I was at in like June after getting sent to Newton for suicidal thoughts.
Oh. My. God. I knew something was very off about that place...... This is so sad and creepy. Thank Zeus I had the mind to get myself out of there as quickly as possible. I've had people tell me I'm manipulative for it, but I genuinely believed my life was in danger.
And I knew I feared for the people there for a reason. For some reason I'm immensely comforted and relieved in knowing my one friend left like a day after me, and we still talk sometimes and follow each other on a blogging site. I feel like she got out safely, and that if she'd stayed, that wouldn't be a guarantee for her.
One of my exes used to say to me he wasn't the same after leaving long term. (even though it wasn't at Georgia Regional)
The staff in the holding unit were actually quite nice and I appreciated them, but once you get hauled off to permanent housing, I've heard it's very dangerous and unsanitary, and your doctors aren't required to ever see you or discuss your treatment with you.
And this document says people have died there "under suspicious circumstances" as recently as 2007 and my friend told me somebody might've tried to drug her to death there, based on her urine screen, and just..... Nobody's doing shit about it.
In all the political campaigns that started circulating on tv in like November/December, all these graying white men would tout, "I'll improve jobs and lower taxes", NOBODY DISCUSSED THEIR POLICY ON STATE MENTAL HOSPITAL FUNDING. People don't even think about this shit at all.........
And "small college campus" I attend college and have visited friends at bigger campuses, like GGC and KSU. It was way bigger than a college campus, it looked more like an FLDS compound, and had security gates.
I'm still not "over" how traumatized I was from being there only 2 days, or that I wound up there, when I could've easily been taken back to my local CSU which is very, very nice, and doesn't require payment if you can't pay.
And it's extremely terrifying, and heart-breaking to know that 30-40 people are shuffled through that place for various levels of admission every day..... and nobody is checking quality of care for long-term residents, or policy, or funding, because the general population is able to be blissfully ignorant.

Tommy- I completely agree with you. It shouldn't have to be this way, though. A lot of people aren't smart enough to figure that out, and it is not their fault at all, and they and we don't deserve any of this.
Also I try explaining that to my family, and all I get in response is "Then don't do any of that cutting/suicidal mess."
