I don't know if this applies to anyone but thought I would ask it anyway. I got a notice in the mail today for Jury duty.:( Has anyone have had to deal with this? If so how do you get out of it? It says on the back to get a letter from your physian to be excused so I guess that is what I am going to have to do I guess. I am NOT doing jury doing. I dont think anyone with a mental Illness can anyway. so any thoughts on this I would appreciate it.

I field out the surevey and it as a question ask someting about your mental capability if you check you mental problems you can get accussed. I had to show up and when the judge ask if there is a reason you can serve I went up and told him I was bipolar and he excussed me. Good Luck

I didn't know those of us with mental illness could get jury duty? You know with the stigma and all.

Which I kind of think is bullshit. Just cause I have bi polar doesn't mean I can't or shouldn't take a part in the justice system.

Any how you feel you aren't able to, I would think a doctors excuse would get you out of it.

I want to do jury duty..... the only time I got a notice, I just moved out of that area - LOL that got me out of it : )

and I do not believe We should be left out!!!!

i would suggest you get that letter from your doctor you have a valid reason to not be on jury duty

thanks for the replies. I think I will get a note from my doctor to excuse me I cant handle being on a jury no way...

When the defense attorney found out I had worked in corrections for 7 years, he didn't want me on the jury so I got dismissed, lol. I kinda hated it cause I would actually think it would be interesting, depending on the case of course. But I agree with everyone, an excuse from the doctor should get you right out of it. Wish ya the best!!
