I went to see a new pdoc today. He spent 50 min. with me asking q's. He wasn't warm and fuzzy. A couple of times he looked at me like I was from a different planet. But he didn't get huffy when I asked him q's about the meds. He wanted to know why I was leaving my old pdoc. I didn't tell him about the "have you read my book?!" episode, but I just said she got huffy with me when I finally started asking q's and I didn't like that. He was incredulous that I had been with her for four years.
He wasn't familiar with one of the meds I was on. Zonegran. I felt like he didn't know his stuff. Then he said he wanted to take me off of it just because he feels uncomfortable working with a med he isn't familiar with. Shouldn't he educate himself instead of taking me off?
He did answer my q's but I felt like he was definitely an in-charge kind of guy (is that good?) and he wanted to be quick about the questions. I don't know how I feel about that. He wants to check my Depakote levels (something my former pdoc never did) and my blood sugar, etc. He will see me again in three weeks. His follow ups are 20 min. long.
I don't like that his office never asked to have my charts/info sent to his office from my pdoc's office. He wanted to rely on my God-forsaken memory to tell him all my past meds and dosages. idk
Idkon't know what to think about all of this. So far he seems better than my pdoc. It's hard to say, though, because I was psycho when I first went in to see her, so I don't really remember the initial visit. It's possible she asked all these kinds of q's too.
So what does it sound like to you? Is it right? How do you know? And do you just keep jumping from doc to doc looking for the one you like, or what? Talk to me.

But I don't think you should have to change medications just b/c your new pdoc is unfamiliar with it. That is ridiculous! Its so hard to finally find a medication that works, why change it?!?! It is your pdoc's responsibility to become educated about the medication you are taking....you shouldn't have to change meds b/c he is unfamiliar with it.
s' tend to prescribe what is working with the mass of their patients. If you liked him I'd give it another visit. If you don't try someone else. Good luck in whatever you decide. I hope you find some understanding a peace.
