Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I know this isn't true but I can't help feeling sometimes that my illness is somehow my fault. I feel like if had done things differently, I wouldn't of developed bipolar disorder. I know it's genetic and there's nothing I can do about that. I have made mistakes like everyone else.
I Think the normies help fuel this idea by being insensitive and tell bipolars to "snap out of it" or that they're weak." My son's pediatriction knew I had bipolar disorder and still called me a weak parent more that once. He even got in my face about it. This dr. is susposed to be an expert on adhd, add aspergers so I would think he would know how parenting an adhd/aspergers child would be difficult for a bipolar parent. It was hurtful to me. I stop taking my son to him and weened him of meds. when he was around 14. Eric was small and not showing signs of puberty on the meds. A couple weeks after quitting them, he grew several inches and his voice started changing. He is still off meds and doing well in school. May be he didn't need meds. People just need to know how to reach him. It took me a long time but I found what works with him. Like with me, I just need to be treated with kindness not criticisim about something I can't help having.
When I still worked and I was having a down spell my bosses would say, " leave your problems at home." I can't leaved my brain at home and bring the rest of me at work.
There are many more examples of this ignorant type of thinking. This type of treatment sometimes makes me feel like I did bring it on myself.
God bless and hugs everyone.

People are just so ignorant sometimes. Even some Dr.s are.
It's a screwed up world what can I say? Many people have zero understanding and even less empathy. They are unable understand unless it happened to them...then they get it!
You are doing the very best you can! ((((Hugs))))
Try and remember that living with bipolar means you are BRAVE. You deal with it and don't run from it like a lot of people with obvious issues do. I'm trying to think about bipolar in those terms. It makes one feel empowered that they are living as wisely and honestly as they can. Hugs to you.
