Feeling defeated

The past two years have been good. I am stable. I feel that the last 5 years took a toll on me. I went through the ringer with mania and depression. Now after having a break down earlier this year I might not be able to work. I have been going to therapy, I never brought this up. I plan to though. Has anybody else felt this way?

I was Dxed 11 years ago.

The last several years I have been what I call " Sorta Kinda Stable "

And yes, even with medications and therapy , I can't work and my life is a worn out dish rag

I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder 5 years ago. But I've been banging my head against the wall for over 20 years. I've tried every med out there (or so it seems). I've had my ups and downs. I can no longer work. I do volunteer for a short period of time and I do go to therapy. Sometimes I feel like there's no point but I have a loving and dear family and wouldn't want to burden them. Definitely be honest with your therapist - that's the whole point. You can only get help if you are honest with yourself about what kinds of problems you're dealing with and need help with. I hope your therapist is kind and compassionate. Good luck!

Having a break down after a long period of stability can feel devastating. I also went through one a few months ago and it felt like my world was being torn apart all over again. I'm sorry you're going through it, but have hope. You never know what will happen in the future and I'm sure you're stronger than you realize. Think of this as just a bump in the road.

Thank you. This is a recent discovery of mine so I will see where this goes. My therapist is great and I have a supportive family. I volunteer right now and I love it.

I spent several years on disability and couldn't work. Then I spent several years stable and doing great. The last two years I have been back and forth and in the hospital a couple of times so I totally understand wanting to be stable, I think it's what we all want. Trying to work and go to school while bouncing back and forth between the two extremes has taken a big toll on me this past year. Hang in there though because eventually it gets better. :)
