Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I'm a single mom of 2 boys. I don't work because of the bipolar. My boys are in school all day and go to their dad's every other weekend. I have 6 siblings I basically don't talk to because they don't get me at all. I have had a very few "friends" over the years but I've cut them off because in hindsight they were users and bad influences. I want to associate with a certain kind of people but I'm anxious with new people, suspicious of everyone, and paranoid. I also feel insecure and unworthy of the attention of decent people. I'm ashamed that I'm not "normal", that I can't take care of myself and my family by working hard and being responsible. I've had people I've just met get up and walk out on me when I've told them I'm bipolar. If only "normal" people knew what hard work it is just to muster up the will to continue living. I'm not suicidal at the moment, haven't been in quite some time, but I would willingly accept death if it came. The only thing that keeps me breathing, trying, striving for more and better is my kids. I read once that 40% of the children of suicides commit suicide themselves. Maybe that's true, maybe not. If not I don't want to know. Some days it's the only thought that keeps me hanging on. Even if my death didn't inspire my kids to take their own lives I know it would screw them up. I make enough mistakes as a parent without even realizing I'm making them. That's one thing I know would hurt my kids so I won't do it, no matter how badly I may want to sometimes. Sometimes, not all the time, because the only thing constant is change. However I feel right now, it won't last forever.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I live in a county that has no support groups for people with bipolar. There is no public transportation and I don't have a car right now to take me to them. I was in a near fatal car accident because of my break and totaled my car and can not afford a new one. But I wish I could go to DBSA meetings or any meeting where I could connect with people face to face who I can identify with and build community.
I am grateful for the online communities but for me I need to have personal interaction even though its difficult for me, I believe its needed. But to connect even on here is better than suffering alone in silence. I am grateful we don't have to do this alone. I am keeping the faith, I hope you do too!
In fact I wonder if I've ever met a normal person. They seem normal and generic when I first meet them but then when I get to know them I discover that everyone seems to have their fair share of pain and while there are some differences a lifetime has a habit of evening things out.
Never know until you try. You may have to try a hella lot of times. If it's something you truly want, relationships, you ain't gonna find them not trying.
" I would willingly accept death if it came "
That's passive suicidality. I've lived that far too long. It's not good for anyone, the person with the ideation or those around them. Started working on this in therapy, among a million other things.
" insecure and unworthy of the attention of decent people "
You just put a message out to some exceptionally decent people.
" very few "friends" over the years "
You're describing my number of relationships that mattered with people that cared.
" make enough mistakes as a parent without even realizing I'm making them "
Take a turn. We all do.
Find me a normal person and I'll watch them carefully until I figure out where they hide the bodies. Normal isn't.
You can open up here, and have. Dump it all out here if you want to. Everyone knows my weepy ass does it. I'll do what I can, but don't take me as together or having correct answers.
Anyway, there were many other things you said that are easy to relate to so I think you'll find common threads among the folk here. Welcome.
