Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hope you feel better once you can get home and relax
thanks gina xx and to everyone for the hugs and understanding. Its hard enough being diagnosed with bipolar at 31 and understand it for myself without explaining it to others :-(
So sorry you're exhausted right now. Carrying on is so draining.
In curious, was this person to whom you diagnosed your diagnosis something with knowledge or experience in mental illnesses? Was it someone who needs to know and accept your diagnosis?
Hang in there!!
I don't really plan on telling anyone else about it anytime soon... but when I do, I plan to start with: "I don't need you to agree or give me your opinion, but I want to tell you about something that I deal with every day, and I want you to listen..."
One thing I realized... when folks disagree, a lot of times it was about them... either they didn't want to think that their "similar" traits could be something wrong/bad... or they saw me as someone who held it together, so what does that mean for them if I'm truly not... or they have their own issues with mental illness or someone in their family with it.
POINT IS: When people react strongly to you, it's usually about them. You don't have to tell anyone but your support system, your counselor and your doc.
I even had a new psychiatrist tell me I wasn't symptomatic enough to be bipolar, after I was stable on two medications! LOL. You can't win.
