You never know what the future holds but a strong suggestion, if u ever start to feel like u are ready to stop taking the meds talk with doc about it first ok

My brother and sister are both BP, bro is doing ok w/ no meds and just seeing a tdoc. Sis def. needs some meds, but she's breastfeeding and can't right now.

I really think it depends on the severity & progression of your illness. There are different levels of BP. Some people can manage their symptoms successfully with no meds, while others of us cannot. It doesn't make you weak, if you need them you need them. I for one found out the hard way that I am one of those who will always relapse in a major way without meds. It is part of your own personal discovery & acceptance.

I was told by me pdoc I would be on meds for the rest of my life...aaaahhhh!!!!!! I have gone off and on again but last time was too much for me. I need to take my docs advice and stay on my meds. Hope we find a cocktail that will work for me soon....it has been 11 months now and the longest time I've ever stayed on meds.

The only time I have been off meds is when I wanted a second baby. Funnily enough, mentally when I was carrying both my kids I felt really good. It must have been the pregnancy hormones. Physically, I felt crap. Was sick for 20 weeks with each and on crutches for the last 20 weeks with Sarah through pubic dysfunction. Lovely!

I am on them for life , but I am BP1 with psychotic features and PTSD. And I'm a rapid cycler. Everyone is different. Just need to get a good pdoc and discuss your treatment with them. Don't just let them shove you out the door in 10 min with prescriptions. The dr. has to know you too, not just your therapist, he/she is not the one prescribing the meds. If they start weaning you off meds, make sure to stay in close contact with them. Let them know of the slightest problem. I was dxd 13yrs ago and have never gone off my meds. (takes a bow) I know it sucks, but so does suicidal depression. which is worse? swallowing some medicine everyday , or suicidal depression? hmm?

I tried many times to not need medications, but something always makes me go back.. MANIA... I am good for a few months and then the cycling starts.. I think of it like having diabetes and they need insulin thier whole life, I am bipolar and need my meds.

My story (short version) I feel good, go of meds, do great for a couple years and then attempt suicide or crash and burn dramatically, rinse repeat
