I took Elavil (amitripyline) last night for the first time. It helped me sleep but I'm really tired and my body aches today. My boyfriend says it's just my body adjusting. How long will I take for my body to adjust for anyone that takes it. I had the same feeling when I tried depakote.

I have never been on Elavil....but for most meds it takes a month at least to reach full therapeutic levels...and for any weird side effects to go away.

With any med change, I always gave it a month. If I wasn't feeling better I would talk to my Pdoc......unless of course the side effect was severe, then I would talk to my Pdoc ASAP

I was sleepy for about a month. And the dry moutn was making me crazy. But it all wears off and then there are no more side effects (unless you're on a high dose). I'm on 20mg.

Thank you. I'm only on 10mg to start. I've been in a zombie state all day with muscles aches and stiffness. I'll try to stick it out. I have to go to physical therapy tomorrow so hopefully I can make that. I hate being so med sensitive.
