My neurologist is recommending it for migraine prevention and insomnia. I have to check with my p doc first. I'm guessing it will replace my trazodone. Has anybody had any luck on it?

It's an older drug.. It's been around for a long time.. I've never been on it but I'll give you a bump... I hope it works well...x

Yeah, I was on Elavil (Amitriptyline) for close to 10 years. Dry mouth is the most common side effect. Went off and was put on Prozac. I didn't do well on that so now I'm back on Elavil. I think it's one of the best meds, no scarey side effects. I'm also on Trazadone.
Funny, I used to have migranes and then they disappeared. I wonder if it was the same time as my going on Elavil?

idk I was on Topamax and the off label benefit for me was no migraines. Never heard Elavil does as well.

years ago i was on that but I am on topomax now for migraines well tapering up really...i didn't honestly know they used that type of drug for migraine management honestly so thank you gives me alternatives to ask about if topomax bombs. I hate doing shots every few days. good luck if you think of it or want to maybe up date us ?

It's an old MAIO MY step father took it for depression and so did my mother. I tried to kill myself with it 7 years ago can't drink alcohol with it. Took the whole bottle chased down with champagne. I was in medical hospital 10 days I ALMOST died. Don't drink with it.

My pdoc sent me to a neurologist for my migranes. Check this out, this is what the moron put me on: Prednisone 100mg. and Belladonna. He had my chart right in front of him. Bipolars on prednisone will become psychotic (high doeses) and Belladonna is a great way to off yourself My pdoc had a coronary, called him and beat the shit out of him verbally.
And yes, I became psychotic. Thank god I didn't kill anybody, I was dangerous.

Yeah I can't do prednisone. I don't use a lot of meds that are prescribed by my doctors until I run it by my p doc first. I learned my lesson after my PCP prescribed Lexapro for anxiety. It made me manic and my p doc questioned why she put me on that combined with trazodone knowing I'm bi polar.

That's why I won't start the Elavil until I see my p doc.

Good girl reds!!! I never take anything anymore until I talk to the doc or research it on the internet. Most docs don't know squat about psych meds.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
