Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

The DSM-V is scheduled to be released in 2012, and it is anticipated that one of the biggest changes in the DSM-V will be the formal release of a BP-3 diagnosis, and *perhaps* a BP-4. Also, the diagnostic criteria for hypomania will likely change. The biggest change to the hypomania criteria will be that instead of having hypomanic symptoms for 4 days, it will only be required for 2 days.
The DSM-V is likely to rely more heavily on the spectrum concept of BP, as opposed to the discrete diagnostic categories that we have now. (I know it seems like I just contradicted myself, but both concepts are indeed true.)
I have sources/citations far more information if anyone is interested (wrote a book chapter on this- to be published this fall).
Akiskal usually refers to "soft bipolar" when talking about any form of bipolar on his so-called spectrum besides BP-1.
So I am always a bit wary of bring my professorial attitude to the boards!
