Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Have you checked healthcare coverage through healthcare.gov, it can be pretty cheap for some people and it does cover mental health. Also Hospitals, most related to University's and Public, some private have programs called "Charity Care" its an internal insurance service based on wage/need, most run from year to year, have very small copays and cover all services you just have to use their Dr.'s and clinics. Its worth it to call your local city and county hospitals and see if they offer services, the beginning of the year and beginning of Annual Budgets are the best time to apply.
I don't have many other suggestions. Mental Health services are not always our choice, but sometime what we have to use until we can do better. I've used them myself in the past when I couldn't afford Insurance. You have to tell yourself that staying stable on meds is better than nothing...
Hang in and seriously if you think you need to go to the ER, go, you won't know if they can help until you do, we can't really answer those types of question with any real yes or no answers, its different in every town. Here, where I live we have excellent ER's, but if I were in your situation and went to the ER, with an appt. tomorrow they would tell me to keep the appt. and try to find different mental health services if I wasn't happy. I can't say for sure what your ER would do. Also remember the people that work at your Mental Health Care center see about 3 x's the amount of people they actual have the time and resources to see....it's not a reason to not treat people well, but they get pretty stressed out. Maybe tomorrow go to the appt. and mention to the NP that you'd appreciate being treated like a human being, you understand they're over-worked but it's not your fault, your doing your best to treat a mental illness and you don't need their extra stress. You're allowed to stand up for yourself, always, regardless of what your paying for healthcare.
I hope things get better tonight.
I have no idea why the doctor increased my lamotrigine, whats yhat going to do?
They normally just try one med at a time due to figuring out side effects.... If they try 2 or 3 meds at once it's hard to figure out what's going on if there are side effects
I found Lamictal wound me up.... I felt okay on it but wound up..... I can't remember why are you coming off of Zyprexa if it works well for you?
I've been on Tegretol for years and that has a calming effect on me just another possibility?? perhaps
You and your husband need to educate yourselves a bit on the meds that treat the Mental Illnesses you have. Celexa is an Anti-Depressant and once again, won't do anything for Anxiety. Main Anti-Anxiety meds RX'd in the U.S. are Ativan, Xanax, Bupar and Klonopin.
Your on a rather different med cocktail, you're taking 2 meds that are commonly used for a Mood Stabilizer, and right now your bouncing up and down on dosages of those, Lamictal and Zyprexa. You've had the Seroquel in there, I guess you've stopped it? You have the Ativan, which you say doesn't work anymore. Are you on an Anti-Depressant? Any type of sleep meds?
Your really heavy on the "mania" side of BiPolar meds and when you put too many of those together, i.e. anti-psychotics, mood stabilizers, anti-anxiety meds, etc. you can get the opposite effect of calm, especially if your not taking anything to equal out the chemistry, your med cocktail is wicked imbalanced....and with all the dosage changing and med changing....I'm surprised your not going flat out of your mind.
The Dysphoria, is that an actual Diagnosis on top of the BiPolar or is that just something the Nurse looked up on Google and said you had?
Like Jen a.k.a. SunCloud, I've taken Tegretol for a few years now, as my Mood Stabilizer, and it works very well, I also use Klonopin, Topomax, Celexa and Vistaril.
I hope that you're able to find someone to help you get things sorted out soon.
