i don't know if it's a withdrawal symptom, but bad vertigo is a symptom of anxiety so if you were on ativan to control your anxiety and that's been reduced or removed it may be that your increased anxiety is manifesting this way without anything to regulate it.

TC, you have Inner ear crystals, technically known as Otoconia, they are tiny calcium carbonate crystals located in the Otolith organs of the ear. The inner ear crystals and Otolith organs help sense movement and gravity relative to the position of your head. When they move slightly and we're talking 100's or 1000's of a mm, it causes Vertigo or dizziness.

Your Dr. was manipulating your head/neck to put them back in place. This isn't an uncommon thing, it happens quite frequently to people and they chalk it up to an ear infection. It happens to my mother in law about twice a year.

Yeah, the first time it happened to my mother in law, she heard the word "crystals" and was picturing, big chunky jewelry type things in her head.....we had a good laugh over it.

But their not very big, they just serve a major purpose.

The head/neck tilting thing is weird how they can just maneuver them back in place. Our freakishly amazing bodies!

Yeah the vertigo IS better!! I have had vertigo before and no one has ever actually FIXED it. They just threw pills at it!!!

This very interesting. I've never heard of the inner ear crystals before.

I have vertigo and don't get it as much anymore. I was having high anxiety and now that thats gone so is the vertigo. But, when it does flair up you can either get meclazine from the doctor or just go to the drug store and buy dramamine. This has meclazine in it. One thing to remember though, Its very strong and I only take half of one that is in dramamine. You will be tired the next day but if you take a whole one you will be very tired the next day. But, this is normal remember its trying to straighten out your inner ear. Half should do it. After a day or two you should be good to go!

If the vertigo is from your Otoconia (inner ear crystals) being out of whack, the meds don't help, the crystals have to be manipulated back into they're correct position.
