I'm wondering how long you have to be off work before you can file. I thought I read a year.

I was working part time ...about 15 hours a week.

My Pdoc wrote a letter saying that 15 hours a week was the max I could work, and not go into a severe episode .

So you can still work part time and collect it? I'm going to have to look into it. I'm having multiple health issues that would probably qualify me I'm guessing. I haven't work in 5 months and I can't borrow money much longer.

I took a look at the SS site http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/dqualify5.htm#a0=0

I think the year you are referring to is that the disability has to be expected to last at least 1 year in order to qualify.

I would make a list of questions and call SS so they can tell you what to expect. Reading their stuff just makes me nervous that there is something I am missing.

You have to get a lawyer. You will be denied if you apply on your own.
I just filled out some paper work and lawyer took care of everything else.

When I was on disability in 2003 I was in the hospital and my family and doctor applied for me and I got it but I think my doctor had a lot to do with me getting approved. I am thinking of dropping to part time work due to continued random episodes that keep putting me out on family leave so this was a great question for me to read about. I wasn't sure how much disability had changed since way back then and was wondering if I would qualify if out on family leave, dropped to part time working 8-15 hours a week, and definitely having a problem that has lasted many years and will continue to last over the next year without doubt. Just wasn't sure if they would approve me since I have worked for the last seven years since coming off of disability. Any thoughts?
