that's how they get you honey. All they're after is your money. I was "ino' Scientology for a while and it's a great big racket. They are totally against meds in any form and believe we chould just be able to "control" how we feel. I would advise against going into Scientology of any sorts.

While I think there is some truth in over enthusiastic prescribing and inappropriate methods in the US - look at mental illness services and practices outside of the US where basically the tax payer pays.

Our drug costs are lower here because I think virtually every other government caps the prices drug companies can charge (that may not be true but it's what I've read).

In those other countries doctors are trying not to spend money on drugs because their state budgets are small.

Even so, for say bipolar, medication is regarded as the foundation of treatment. They prescribe lithium, lamotrigine, valproate etc. Anti-psychotics where appropriate. What we don't see here is so much off label usage, e.g abilify for depression. We tend not to diagnose children with bipolar.

From what I've heard of the scientologists the core foundation is the writings of a pulp science fiction writer. It seems to involve a lot of money. The word "cult" comes up alot. There appear to be a number of people strongly against them and investigating them in a way I don't see so much for other more recent religions.

Scientology is a cult. Their stance has always been anti-psychiatry and anti-med. Don't fall for their line. Keep utilizing your treatment and meds while educating yourself to be able to make good decisions. The study of Scientology makes for interesting if chilling reading and there's lots of information available.

throw everything you got in the trash and run the other way. as fish referred to, scientology has been known as a cult. it has a lot of high profile members...john travolta, kirstie alley, tom cruise...they donate obscene amounts of money to the cause. they do not allow medication, believing that all things can be cured through the mind. unfortunately, it is not true, and many people have died as a result of this mistaken belief, including their own members and their families.

take the good out of it, dump the rest and stay on your meds.

I have to admit that Scientology just makes me mad. People get sucked in and taken advantage of. They prey on people who are vulnerable and get them to commit to giving them money. They take away the very things that keep us stable, our meds, our friends, and our minds. I don't take kindly to people who tell me what to think. It takes away our individuality and humanity. It is a cult. Don't get sucked into this thing. Do some research before you decide to involve yourself with these people. Make an informed decision.

Scientology is flat out dangerous. Often, liars of this sort will take a grain of truth and weave it into their lives.

It is true that the pharmecutical companies make a lot of money. It is true that the mental health system needs and overhaul, but as I was saying this morning elsewhere-My meds DO HELP me. I don't need much, but yes, the trileptal (for me, always check with the doc) does work well. I just have had too much trauma not to be on medicine, see.

I'm NOT SAYING that talk therapy isn't good or that as one ages, one might not age out. Yes, talk therapies and various philosophies can help and also we might age out of having to have so many meds but to just say that it is all "mind over matter"-Meds are a tool to help us.

If you are going to believe in mind over matter, you must educate yourself and know your limits. You must know your body and your brain and what you need.

Scientology is false and just horrid.

Thank you guys for ur replies and concerns...they made it seem like i was a victim of psychiatry saying things like "no one can tell u how to feel" "no one can make u take these poisons" etc

the nice lady i was talking to she said that they believe in meds that help people like if u need anti biotics or had "a real disease" i told her bipolar is real and she said its all in the head.

i told them wen i dont take my meds after a while i break down and end up in the hospital and they told me after a while the meds are gonna fry my brain and i wont be able to function.

im going to college in the fall and i do wanna be med free just so that i can drink at parties:)

the mortality rate for untreated bipolar is much higher than treated. If you end up quitting your meds from their shit talk and that is all it is, you could be putting your life at risk..

I wish someone would bring those fuckers up on charges already. there is a story of someone dying from that religion and probably many more if they are trying to get the bipolar to quit their meds...

This is a cult. A long time ago I got sucked into the beginning stages and they were encouraging me that if I just paid them money, I could work my way up to Grand Thetan. Ron Hubbard, who wrote Battleship Earth, one of the worse Science Fiction books ever written, also invented this fictitious religion, or Science of the Mind, as they prefer to call it.

Nothing is more scary to me that people saying you should go off your meds, and that mental illness is a lie. I have had major depression for years, and now bipolar II. I know it is nothing I have done, and my psychiatrist explained it is the brain not functioning properly, not just about changing our thoughts. I don't get it all, but I get that the nicer they are, the more chance it is probably a way to suck all the money out of you.

I just think "buyer beware"

Sometimes I think the Real problem is that All people who believe something strongly enough, tend to push this onto Anyone who will listen. And I don't believe that the majority of them do it consciously.


Children on a playground, everywhere I look. "I'm right!" "No, Me!" "No, I Am!!" And we all fail to remain Open to circumstances that are beyond our control, and the general frailty of being Human.

In this case, people who have the means, opportunity and general Makeup to control certain things in their lives simply CAN make scientology work for them.

But the mind/body connection that is Humanity is too strong to work in many cases.

...For example, someone who owns a farm and grows everything organically, at home, who eats Only healthy foods and who derives a substantial enough income to do this, may encourage Everyone to eat this way, as it will make them Smarter, Stronger, Healthier, etc.

There are truths in that. But would you tell that to a homeless person, who has No means to buy the good food, and change his or her lifestyle? No.

Not if you are truly Thinking of the other person's current situation...

I'm wandering, aren't I. You need meds because it is what Works for you, and unless these people want to drop Everything and support you as you struggle, you have to do what is best for You.

We are swimming downstream as a Species, and the current is simply Strong.

To me, and this is my opinion only - scientology is no more a cult than any other group, but the Danger is always in saying, "Do as I do!!" when others simply Cannot.
