So I'm a bit late for this, but I think it's an important message to get out there. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2002. I still do not have my blood sugars under control. Part of that is my own fault - poor eating habits, little exercise, etc. bad lifestyle choices. We are all heading towards death's door, but I will reach it far sooner than I should if I don't get this aspect of my health sorted. I didn't know I had diabetes. I ignored the warning signs and symptoms. I made excuses not to be tested, and I paid and am still paying for it - both financially and physically.
I am afraid I will go blind and lose my connection to the world and the precious gems that are words and books. I am afraid I will have further amputations and lose mobility. I am afraid I will have a stroke and lose myself or a heart attack and lose my life.
Don't wait. If you think you may have symptoms of diabetes - get checked. If you know someon with symptoms show them an act of love and kindness and help them get tested. If you have a familial history, get tested and work on improving your eating and activity habits.
It's hard for many of us because mood disorders screw with appetite, the energy to engage in self care, and often results in periods of debilitating apathy. but it is so important to try to eat well and to get moving.
be committed to your wellness, we each owe ourselves that kindness.

Diabetes runs in my family.
Several times I have declined certain BP meds because they cause rapid weight gain, and I need to avoid that aspect of some meds.
I wish you future luck with going forward and getting into shape !
