It's been a long fifteen days. Ahhh. My life has changed more in the past two weeks than in the past 19 years.
I've been clean off opiates, narcotics, and mind-altering drugs of all kinds including psych meds (except Vistaril for sleep and panic attacks and the 4-day valium flood doses steadily leaving my system from detox) for 2 weeks.
At first it was a blessing, but it has been a living hell of debilitating pain, health problems, and unpredictable mindsets for the last 8 or 9 days.
I'm terrified to go back on psychiatric medication, even though it isn't the same as narcotics, I know... I have a phobia of taking medicine at all, now. I don't feel I was addicted to any one thing, or getting high. I was addicted to controlling and idealizing my emotional and physical feelings at all times, having perfect mind control with very little effort. "Euphoria" meaning simply, "ideal state of mind" (paraphrasing, too tired to fact check the exact definition).
I always felt my natural emotions and thoughts were typically inappropriate to the situation, so I tried to fix it through both legitimate and illegitimate medical means. But I'm sober and it is still that way now.
I have better self control from being threatened with criminal persecution if I didn't conduct myself well enough to seem compliant with doctors' ten-thirteen orders, but my mood swings are so outrageous that the experience I've gained isn't helping my current situation worth a damn.
Everyone's telling me it will get better as my mind and body re-adjusts to its natural state, but... It's going to take some time. I have to figure something out, though. I feel psychiatric institutions aren't the answer because controlling myself in a controlled environment is pretty easy for me now, it's the real world I cannot deal with. Even if I'm not the one in control, I've found that if the environment is controlled, I feel okay because I am clear on what I am to do.
I also am reluctant to consider medication as my solution because man made chemicals personally ruined my life and my ability to be responsible while also being caring and genuinely kind, and trial-and-error takes time to be successful, IF it somehow works for you at all.
I'm terrified if I take mind-altering drugs, I won't be able to keep things in perspective and stay genuine and focused... Psych meds have also never personally worked for me before. Is there anything anyone would like to suggest?
The best option right now seems like Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, but I'm not too sure of anything. I'm skeptical of any decision I personally make because I'm awkwardly trying to find my ability to thoroughly and logically think something through without missing the obvious by over-thinking myself, or over-thinking myself straight into a ditch.
(Also, I wasn't able to recognize that I ever had a "pill problem" because I felt I was taking very minimal amounts, so I didn't see it as a problem until I saw the difference being sober made)
Sorry for the many hiatuses. I was a very confused and confusing person for a very long time. I love you all, I hope the best for this community and the welfare of its up-keepers, readers, and contributors. I'm trying to do things more simply, but the real world outside of my personal introvert bubble is quite intricate with all the innumerable factors, so I'm having a rotten time of it.
All I know for certain is I cannot look back on my old life.... I was in denial about reality. As much as I was intelligent I wasn't wise, now I'm feeling overwhelmed.

Which explains the mysterious fevers and my extra fatigue. I'm so glad I pushed for answers.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

I take what I am given to take with little concern after the right compliment of meds were found that seemed to work for me. I just accept them like part of my food, that nurtures me and keeps me well currently.
I am hoping this is wise.
I took a lot of sedating meds for a few years because I needed sleep desperately. I slept a lot. Went to work. Went to therapy. Went to sleep. Didn't socialize much. Hard work. But after a length of time passed I stared to feel refueled by the sleep and discipline. I will continue to take the meds, and in time I developed a good rapport after trial and error of many of them. It's not easy for everyone but keep trying...
I do want to ask though....have you ever tried psych meds with out using any opiates and / or narcotics ?
Using opiates and / or narcotics will deff alter the effectiveness of BP meds.{ in all likelihood ,opiates / narcotics would negate any benefits of BP meds }
In any case , we all have to make the decision on BP meds, to take or not to take
Welcome back !

Every time I have left the hospital I left with a care plan made by a care plan team to include doctor, social worker, my family and various other professionals that could contribute to the plan. We have gone round and round at times - disagreeing, compromise, discussion - but I have NEVER left the hospital without a plan in place. Something that we all could live with.
To "seem" compliant is doing yourself an injustice.
Now that I have found the combination of bp meds I would never consider taking an opiate or narcotic bc I wouldn't want to mess up my equilibrium no matter that it is "boring" and a little mind numbing. Ultimately they keep me in check. Ofc you make your own decisions about your medication or no medication but I found it took a great bit of maturity on my part to just accept life on life's terms and go the healthiest route I could to be stable. Good Luck!
I don't think that it was a really responsible thing that they did taking you off of all of your BP meds... I have heard of this before and I disagree with it..
There are meds that you need due to a chronic illness for your wellbeing.... I don't use my BP meds to get high and I don't think too many of us abuse BP meds unless someone might be on benzo's ,,,,So that's my opinion on that part.... At this time there is no cure for BP and meds are a big part of keeping it under control
Rehab facilities are just the first step in being sober... As you've said it's pretty easy when you have 24/7 care that is directed at helping you stay sober
The rest of it is going to take a lifestyle change that you're going to have to work at...
A lot of people go to different meetings such as NA or AA... If you aren't interested in faith based meetings the facility might be able to refer you to another group??
At the same time I also agree that 'feelings' are going to be coming at you... Every time they have for a long time you've been taking a substance to control or quiet them for quite some time and it will take some time to find a way to deal with them in a healthy way... I think DBT or CBT is a great idea
Great big hug for you V... You've done a great thing for you!...xo
