Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Have you tried to go to counseling/ therapy? Or being on medication? Sometimes it takes a lot of switching the meds to find the right one. I currently am not taking anything and trying to deal with it on my own, have been for many years now. It is hard trying to get people to see where you are coming from.
Maybe have a family member or your girlfriend join you in a therapy session this sometimes helps others understand, when they hear it from a professional.
I also know how hard it can be to keep relationships when you have a mental illness, i know i do not have many stable ones even with family because no one "gets it."
As far as your family and your girlfriend, maybe you should show them some sites on the internet about your mental illness, if they really want to help they will help themselves better understand it as well. Just my suggestion.
I am just barely winning my fight and I am on 5 medications and weekly therapy. I have mixed cycle bipolar. I cycle multiple times daily. Usually multiple times hourly. Its baffling to me.
I am a married mother with two sons ages 16, 11. My husband does not understand. He loves me very much so he really just deals with it and tries to ignore it. He does support the fact tht the med is SUPER important for myw well being. He does not do feelings or emotions AT ALL.
It takes people a very long time to actually accept it. I honestly don't think tht anyone can understand it unless they have been thru it and felt it for themselves. They may eventually accept it but they will nevrr understand, heck man most who have it don't even understand it.
It is a horrible thing to deal with! Honestly tho I would guess tht weather you have bp; or ur child, husband or wife has bp it is an extremely hard intrusive disorder to cope with
