Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I recently got out of a relationship that lasted a little over a year. In my mind, the relationship was near perfect and I wanted nothing different. My partner was my bestfriend and also “my person”. I have bipolar disorder and have a hard time coping with it sometimes, especially my depressive episodes. I relied on him for comfort and to help me during these moments of hopelessness. He always said he didn’t mind it but when he broke up with me he made it seem like the big reason for his decision was that he couldnt handle my episodes. When I am manic I have seemingly uncontrollable rage fits where I lash out on everyone. I would call him names and say the meanest things to him. A lot of the times when the fit is over I feel almost like I’m high off happiness and will forget a lot of the things I had just done while mad. When he would tell me some of the things I had said I almost couldn’t believe it. He must’ve shared these things with his friends because they told him that I was emotionally abusive to him and a toxic person. I am medicated and try my hardest to deal with my illness myself using various coping skills but things have been especially hard lately because of the breakup having me so sad. I cant help but think that having BD is the reason my relationship ended and if that’s the case, how will I ever find someone that will love me?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm sorry that you've just gone through a difficult breakup
It reads like you 'might' be having 'mixed states' if you're having extreme anger... Have you discussed this with your psychiatrist?
People aren't going to tolerate abuse so it's important that we have some helpful outlets, tools etc as well that are meds are working effectively
I was diagnosed in a mixed state and I know the feeling of that anger.... You might need a med tweak? perhaps?
I find if I'm feeling really anxious, angry I'm better off having time to myself... quiet time....Things like anger management, journaling, therapy can also help
Gratitude is one of my greatest tools
Big hug.....xo
I think it's great to have support of course by a mate however I believe professionals are the best place to go to for help if we're unwell and peer support on places like DS.... If that makes sense..... I'm glad that you're here......xo
You say your on meds but your trying to treat your illness yourself. If that means you don't see a Pdoc or Therapist, you might want to seriously think of changing that. This is not an illness that can be self-managed 98% of the time. It takes Professional Help.
For the other half of a relationship that we're in, it's pretty hard on that person if your BP is active and you have regular episodes. Yours sound pretty intense. Its not unusual to rely on your partner for strength, care, help and love. But BP'ers often don't realize how much that requires of someone, how much of a toll it takes, we need it from people, we need help. But the other side can't always handle what we put on them. Its definitely not an easy thing to live with....its nobody's fault, it's just what it is.
Seeing a Therapist, learning some coping skills that you can use to help with your Depression and Manic Eps., learning some skills like Journaling, Relaxation Therapy, etc. There are many, many skills and tools you can learn to help you get your BiPolar to a more stable point. Many of us here have dealt with BiPolar for a very long time, 28 years for me, and it's just a part of my life. I don't think of the 2 as separate.
The tools and coping skills I've learned over the years have allowed me to live a productive life with my BiPolar. But it's taken a lot of work, and it's taken a lot of time with my Pdoc and my Therapists over the years.
Take care and I hope you find ways to help yourself. Lots of great folks here I hope you find some friends.
You need to see a doctor because obviously the meds aren't working for you - so it's time for a change.
What you need to do is to remove the alcohol. Going to Aikido won't make yourself sober. Watching a video won't either.
IF you are bipolar then you need meds. After that things like Aikido, videos or whatever may help. But not until you get medicated.
I really don't understand why people without bipolar come onto this board and make suggestions which shows they have no clue. It's like going onto the cancer sufferers' board and telling them to listen to whale music. Yes it can help later on but get proper treatment first.
But I think the OP already gets this.
