No Wolf, you are not paranoid. There is a family history that you are worry about, the good thing is is that you are going to the doctor. This is a big step and I commend you for it. Being a sick person myself, all I can say is take it one step at a time. Try and be positive, there is always a positive in everything. Don't let things get you down, the sun shines every day!

I think that most of us would have concerns w... Did the members of your extended family die due to illnesses related to smoking or alcohol?...Lung or heart disease....liver or cancer?..
If they died due to lifestyle I would try and put the concerns to bed.. If leg weakness is caused by Trileptal I don't imagine 'MS has anything to do with it..
Have you had a physical recently??.. If not maybe it would be a good time to have one and address your concerns with your doctor.. Blood work alone often shows up many problems and I'd discuss any worries you have with MS...xo

The blood test I had done for my sodium levels (Trileptal) came back OK on sodium by high in sugar.

This is my second blood test that has come back high sugar after fasting (this one was 130), so now I have to be tested for the onset of diabetes, which is better than MS.

But can also cause weakness and fatigue and also runs in my family. Yay !!!

Just be really, really careful. Get a general practicioner to check on you as well as the regular psychiatrist.

Try to keep your lifestyle as peaceful as possible. Grounding--as you know, can really really help.

Nope. Not paranoid.

A family history such as yours should not be discounted.

I come from a family full of severe alcoholics and heavy smokers.
Even with all that, no one dropped dead until they were well into their 70's and 80's.

And most of the other 'drunks and smokers' I know of who have died (family members of friends, acquaintenances, etc.,) were older than early to mid-50's.

Dying in the early to mid-50's is pretty damn young for every male in your family to have happen to them.

7 to 8 cigarettes is tons better than, say, 2 packs a day, but I'd check with the doctor as to how 'relatively less harmful' it really is.
I think you're kidding yourself if you consider it harmless -- but I realize that you aren't saying that!!
Perhaps you figure any damage it's doing is likely to be 'minimal' and you find that level of damage acceptable.

I think given your family history, you might want to be as careful as you possibly can.

Talk to every doctor you come across about your situation and see if they are of the opinion that you are at a higher than usual level of risk.

Investigating illnesses when there is a family history is not paranoia, just being proactive. I would have it checked out. Hope it goes well and that it's just a minor thing that's bothering you. xxx
