Also I would open up the device manager (hopefully you know how) that is more likely where you will find it. Volume is a program that operates the sound card and speakers which are devices.
It could be a bad sound card or speaker but try seeing if the driver is working first if it's not you will need to try updating or restoring it to a previous version. You should find those options.
you should find the device manger by going to the control panel and clicking on systems and security and then under administrative tools. then click on computer management and the device manager should be in the left hand panel.
