Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I don't use Facebook but I do feel responsible for everything in my life -- even when I clearly didn't have a choice in the matter (like chemical imbalance in the brain.) So I guess other people don't make me feel that way .... I do it to myself. Ugh!!
Sorry chicky, no I did not wish bipolar or to marry a man with a drinking problem, but I chose to get help, take meds, groups, and hang out here....
We are the only person in this world who is responsible for us - and our happiness. No mother or husband is going to make us happy, but even crazy, I can BE HAPPY....
I understand your vent - your frustrated, but its a good topic - took my 20 years to realize everything is my choice, in how I handle it... I also swear by doing something! I'd rather make a mistake, than make nothing..
(((((BIG HUG)))))) Sorry your hurting, it sucks - but maybe you can pick something else to do or think about? Fantasy or vacation! LOL
Should have said 'most' or 'many'.
Makes it easier for people to hear.
But you should come at it as though it were 'every', which is probably why it's often put that way!!!
That keeps the focus on you and on what you can and should do about things.
If you adopt the attitude that your life is what it is, in large part, because of the choices you make, you approach everything from a different perspective.
Rather than just feeling crummy when something goes wrong, you question what you could have done differently to prevent it in the first place and you think of what you can do differently in the future, so that it doesn't happen again.
Instead of thinking 'look what was just done to me', you think 'How could I have avoided this and how can I keep it from ever happening again'.
Staying focused on the power you have makes for a much happier life than feeling like you are at the mercy of everyone and everything.
You make much better choices.
You can't keep every bad thing from happening to you. But you can keep a lot of them away!!!
You know you have a chemical imbalance.
Choose to do everything you possibly can to limit its negative impact on your life.
You know you're allergic to certain foods? Choose not to eat them.
You didn't choose for your kids' father to leave all of you?
Looking back, is there anything at all that you would have handled differently, before that happened?
If he left, things probably weren't going all that great for a while before that.
It's very possible that both of you could have made different choices that would have been better for the family.
Even if there wasn't a single thing that you should have done differently in your marriage, can you see from that experience something that you would do differently in the future, so that you are not likely to ever find yourself in that position again?
Yeah, people will fuck you over in life.
But if you take total responsibility for the choices you make, you will be absolutely amazed at how much less often it happens.
You stop playing into it in ways that you never before realized that you were.
I'd be plenty pissed if someone listed every crappy thing that's going on in my life and then added, 'And it's all your fault' or 'you brought it all on yourself' in a blaming sort of way. Or suggested that this must be what I want, since this is what I chose.
But that's not what is meant when someone suggests that our lives are what they are because of the choices we make.
Life is nothing but problem-solving. Every new solution brings new problems.
Honing your problem-solving skills is one of the best things you can do.
Work with what you can.
You can't stop things from happening to you. But you choose how you react to them.
Keep your focus on the latter and you'll have a much happier life.
As for everything else just draw a line in the sand and take a deep breath and say "okay everything is going to be behind me and I am going forward from here".
I still have somethings where I blame others for things that are in my life now but everytime the big one comes up I just have to stifle it because I cant undo it. And to keep mulling on any of them just makes me sickerer and upset. (and upseterer). and wastes time.
So I have to figure out where I am going to be with it (them) in 5 years 10 years etc.
(Hugs)
But I do believe that we have choice/s no matter what x
Just deactive your account, or delete these friends :)
Sure- I made choices for "betterment" of myself. Now when someone can stop me from reliving the bullshit when I close my eyes at night then maybe I can actually enjoy what good I have.
Bipolar makes it all so much better to deal with....
Oh well- it is what it is and will be what it will be as usual.
Yep- my time to start making some choices.........
Now close yr eyes...double it....divide by two....multiply by Pi
Mmmmm....Pie....
