In fact, he thinks stopping smoking could be bad for me , as now Nicotine is in my system and a part of my med combo (weird)
People who don't even have BP have some weird reactions to Chantix...so..I'd recommend working closely with your doc if you use it.
I'm one of those that has no problems from taking it ( and..it's the only thing that ever got me through the first stages of quitting)
But...I go off the rails after stopping it.
As to a DR....ANY Dr....saying anyone should continue to smoke..
That's absurd.
I had...recently..like, last year...a Pdoc co-sign my bad check of just being under too much stress to continue not smoking..
After SIX months of being quit. ( used Chantix the first month)!
I'm back over two packs a day.
I have COPD with emphysema (sp?).
Not the Docs fault...I'm an adult.
My husband is still furious with him.
Chantix works. And..yes..it's dangerous....especially to us. Not breathing also has its hazards.
I have my next round of it sitting in the Med cabinet waiting for me to get between other nauseating meds ( it's really nauseating... can give you bad headaches...and insomnia...
So..add all that to nicotine withdrawal...and..of course things are going to get crazy. )
I'm a member of a DS board where there are a number of folks with end stage emphysema..( mine isn't that advanced)..
But..it can ..and does..rapidly worsen.
I no longer have the luxury of pretending cigs are just a bad habit.
Neither does anyone else...whether they know it or not.
I'm usually not a soap-boxer. Sorry. I just saw two great people die from one of the COPD boards towards the end of last year.
I was on it from some doc for some depression and I was insane on it- (wellbutrin)
Jittery and anxious...x
I just quit 3 weeks ago. Combo of the patch and an e-cigarette when the cravings get too bad. The first week was hell but it is getting easier now.
Iv been smoke free for 16 days now, i used the patch & the inhaler, highly recommend the inhaler, gives you the nicotine, without the other crap & it gives you something to put in your hands.
Good luck
