Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I am starting to feel that the pdocs lie and that there is some sort of conspiracy going on among the mds, the drug companies, and the counselors. I feel that none of them know what they are talking about and are wrong. I have a pdoc appt. on Fri and am feeling quite hostile towards him. I want to stop taking the meds, so I can prove them all wrong. Right now I want to kick the mans ass!! Of course when I bring up something, I get....it's the bipolar disorder"!!!! That just feeds my fire!!
I do not understand what is happening to me....I feel alone, broken, angry. I need someone to help me make some sense out of this. I need help. Is there someone who can chat with me....help me make some sense of this????

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Are you taking your meds now?
Or do you have a prn. I know you say you dont want to take meds but that is what will control this
Big hug
Meds will help bring you down and take the paranoia away
Its important to take you meds sweety
Bipolar DIsorder has been a known ailment for how long and we are still being treated by off-label use of anti-epileptic drugs as mood stabilizers. The meds specifically designed for the psychotic parts are practically death sentences, the companies are sued excessively but AstraZeneca alone makes 17 billion dollars a year from Seroquel alone so what's a few million dollar pay-offs to their victims for them. I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate research projects going on to come up with safer alternatives but how long is it going to take. I made an earlier post about this which I will now bump.
Parke- Davis had a lawsuit brought against them for marketing Neurontin for unapproved uses. Documents were found that stated Parke-Davis deliberatly had plans to try and persuade doctors to prescribe the med for migraines, biplar disorder, panic disorder and a few other things all for PROFIT! For profit!
Thanks for responding guys. Hope to catch up with you later.
I finally wrote a short "paper" about why I didn't want to take meds, and why such a decision might be rational (drug companies funding doctors' and hospitals' efforts, unknown side effects of drugs, etc.). I backed everything up with citations to articles.
At the time I was still diagnosed as "depressed", not bipolar. I was OK for a while, but eventually the moods swings and stuff convinced me that I really did need the meds.
But yes, when you want to do something the pdocs or mds don't want you to do, they tend to act as though you were making an irrational decision, as though it were the disorder talking. Maybe it is sometimes, but (in my opinion) no always. It's our lives and our bodies. People need to respect our choices, and to honor them, even if it turns out to be a mistake. Experience is the best teacher. If we really do need the meds (as I turned out to need them), we'll figure it out.
