I lost my husband to stomach cancer on 5/21/13. I was sad of course but I didn't feel as sad as I thought. As you know when most people pass away they leave behind a big mess to sort through. I've just recently gotten through most of my husband stuff. Many of his family members treated rudely, around the time he died and even after his death. After he died they pretty much ignored me. His biological son and daughter-in-law stole stole jewelery and money. Just recently he charged over $200 worth of goods and services at a tire store where his father had an account. This account was suspose to be closed. I went and told talk to the people and they said they would look into it.
I know there are many stages of grief. I have now entered the grieving stage. I think I put it off because I was so angry with his family that I took it out on his memory.
I've had a fairly traumatic life. I'm very depressed now. I get paranoid because I'm just waiting for another terrible thing to happen. I feel mostly worthless because I work because of BP. I've been judged by others all my life, of course. I'm just afraid that people see me as something awful that should be avoided. I'm not a violent person. I'm just a wreck right now.
I've been working with my pdoc on my med. dosage to get me through this.
How did you get through a time of grief? Thank you for any help you can give me.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I learned emotional regulation skills and distress tolerance skills thru DBT, or dialectical behavior therapy, and it saved me over and over. In this group therapy you also have a personal therapist to help you work through the skills and issues on a deeper level.
You can always go talk to a pastor or grief counselor as well.
Sending out a big hug to you.
Like most I went into shock for a while, then went manic about 6 weeks after she died, got more meds and then got depressed. Even though I was on a full dose of lithium it just couldn't hold it. I had months of strangeness - I think probably about 5 months.
Everyone grief is different, all I could manage for the first few months was sit on the couch and watch reruns of Star trek.
Gradually, after time it got better with dips at every 1st anniversary, first Christmas alone, etc.
All we can do sometimes is just try and keep going and accept that we can't do anymore.
You might want to post on the widows & Widowers board - or even just read the posts, with the exception of the bipolar part (and there are a number of secret bipolars over there) you experience isn't so different from many of us.
