Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I love my bf. He treats me and my kids so well. There's just a few things that are hard to deal with.
He has OCD with keeping things clean. I don't mind this. I like having a clean house and a clean bf. I just feel like I'm not doing enough b/c he sees a mess and I see that everything is clean. I want to do more, but when I don't even see the mess, how am I supposed to know what to clean?
He's an alcoholic. Since he's moved in (10 months ago), he went from no beer to 3 12-packs a week. I had a talk with him and he said he would stop. I told him that I don't mind him having a couple of beers a couple of times per week and maybe getting buzzed once in a while. We dated years ago and broke up b/c of his drinking. I don't want that to happen again. I know he shouldn't have any since he IS an alcoholic, but I don't want him to go crazy either.
He thinks there isn't enough information or studies on BP for the amount of people he knows with the disorder. He did say at one point that he didn't believe I have it. I'm not as "crazy" as his ex-girlfriend who was violent and very argumentative. I suffer in silence b/c who wants to hear what's going through my head all the time?
I love him dearly and don't want anything to upset our relationship. He has agreed to stop drinking so much and to try to be more supportive of my BP. The OCD (though I don't mind it) is the hardest thing to deal with.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I hope your bf is able to keep his drinking under control because that is hard to cope with (my ex husband was an alcoholic/drugaddict) and it is also hard to live with someone who doesn't 'believe' you have bipolar because you feel under pressure to explain yourself all the time.
I am glad you guys can talk about it though and have both agreed to try. it is always a good sign when we can talk to each other about these things so that nothing can fester. hugs.
Of course, nobody is perfect and everybody has issues..so I would hope if you guys love each other and truly want to be together, you'll be able to work things out. Love triumphs all obstacles as long as both parties are willing to compromise, and to be in a sincere effort.
Best.
I'm so sorry that you're struggling right now.... Eeek... on the alcoholism... I grew up with it and my 1st husband was an alcoholic...
It was terrible and I had to leave... It's a serious illness and unless he seeks help you're in for a really rough time sweetie.. on top of that controlling...
I think I would only go forward with this if he would reach out for help....This would be hard on your children to... There are some full episodes of Intervention on Youtube that are very good and address addiction..... Big hug...x
I dont drink anymore but it took 3 divorces anolg with my BP problems to relise stay away from it . for me it has to be that way. I am not saying he cant do it just stay safe and keep yourself well you and your kids come first. time will give you answers one way or the other.
Oh my -- you have 3 big issues to deal with in your relationship. I'll give you the same advice I'd give my daughters -- see what's there to be seen. Your home and family life needs to be a safe haven from the world -- for both you and your children. His OCD no doubt causes tension. Let him own it. If you don't see a mess but he does, then let him deal with it as he needs to.
I would give him an opportunity to quit drinking but I would let him know if he continues to drink it's a deal breaker. Alcoholics can't just have a beer every now & then.
You need and deserve support and understanding with respect to your bipolar. Provide your man with information about the disorder and if he's still not on board -- then see what's there to be seen.
