Hi all, I take Lithium and recently have experienced my body overheating...waves of heat...pretty disturbing. My psych said it was Serotonin Syndrome, that is excess serotonin because I also take zoloft. He said come off the zoloft but now my mood has dropped...also anxiety. My gut feeling is that it is the Lithium causing the side effect not the Serotonin Syndrome. Has anyone experienced excess body heat by taking Lithium? If Lithium is causing this excess heat, I will try Lamictal.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I would react to heat/sun with Lamictal. I would get blotchy and itchy if I got too hot. So I stayed out of the heat and sun as much as I could. Hard to do in the N.E. US
Just discuss it with the pdoc ...good luck
The answer is to drink more water
"Drink extra fluids to keep from getting dehydrated while you are taking lithium. Tell your doctor if you have been sweating excessively, or if you are sick with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise and in hot weather. Follow your doctor's instructions about the type and amount of liquids you should drink. In some cases, drinking too much liquid can be as unsafe as not drinking enough."
