Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Sorry you are struggling to find your way. I just wanted to tell you I understand how you feel. Hugs.
Your dream may have been stress-induced; sometimes we are already stressed people even before we tackle projects like school and stuff.
I don't know you - is this your first attempt at "getting back into things" in awhile?
How do you handle everyday stresses in your life? (not counting school)
I bit off more than I could chew last year when I went back to school. I had to cut back to part time. It was a hard decision to make. Probably the hardest thing was to decide what it was that I really couldn't handle vs. what I really didn't want to do because it made me nervous. I didn't want to "get out" of anything just because of this stupid illness. I wanted to be able to accomplish as much as I possibly could so I could be proud.
This is an old piece of advice, and I heard it several times before I tried it, because it sounded so simplistic and kinda silly. But, if you take at least 3 slow, deep breaths when you feel that anxiety, it really does force your body system (starting with your breathing, which systematically slows everything else down, too) to also slow down. Try that just before you fall asleep, and just before your speech. See if it works!!
((( hugs )))
Don't give in---try taking a run, doing jumping jacks or sit ups until you get nice and sweaty. Then make your list of what you need to do. Get that play out of the way for sure--practice for stuffed animals and then visualize the people you are speaking to as stuffed animals.
College is difficult. But it is worth it in the end. Maybe you can get help from Special Student Services, help w/study skills and request extra help from the speech instructor.
My husband just got a degree, has dyslexia and was able to get lots of extra tutoring and a wonderful reader computer program. My son is also getting similar help.
Through college and university I engaged in continued venting add in crying, having major depressions, losing my folks, a couple of mild breakdowns and migraines and endometriosis and horrible pain every month. It took me 7 years including summers and even 2 stupid correspondence courses to get a 5 year degree. There were many times I wanted to give up completely. But I did it. Day by boring day.
Just think about what your goal is in life. Get help that you need. And much luck to you.
