Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I'm Bipolar Type II as well. I found a support group thru NAMI that meets a couple of times per month. It's free and so helpful. Just nice to be able to be face-to-face with others who know exactly what I'm going through. Maybe there is a free group in your area too. I actually have to drive 1 hour to mine but it's really worth it. Good luck finding the support you need and remember you can always post here for a little cyber support.
The ones that know are hard enough to deal with.
My therapist told me to look into NAMI too.
She isn't sure if I will have enough insurance to keep going to her.
I get 14 sessions a year.
I go about once a month so far but lately I have needed more.
Good Luck!!!

To those that treat you like garbage, give them a mouthfull! You are sick, you have a mood disorder, period. It does not matter what the classification is, they are all treated pretty much with the same classes of meds, etc. And your illness cannot be generalized too much, I mean, your illness is unique. You may not have the typical, quintessential, classic BP symptoms. And, not to scare you, but BPII is just as dangerous as BPI in that there are as many, if not more, suicides from BPII sufferers. There is more debate about all of this though, for I have had one psychiatrist tell me BPII does not exist, that personality disorders are disguised as BPII. Blah blah. Another psychiatrist contradicted him all together. Get a copy of the DSM-IV (V should be coming in a few years) and go by that. But do not get too hung up on official labels. I realize this is incredibly scattered, but I hope it helps.
Hope you're doing well. Just thought of something. Who is "everyone" in your statement "everyone thinks it's all in my head?" Like Ms M said, sometimes there are people in our lives who earn a demotion from our inner circle. It doesn't have to be all dramatic or nasty. Keep yourself surrounded closely by those who are supportive but not enabling. :)
P.s. If this ranting kinda sounds odd or whatever just read my journal for today and it'll make more sense.
to me, im just me, one that needs alot of meds and the occasional hospital stay....
I also found out about the other group (forgot name)!
I will look them up so this post helped me too.
Thanks!!!!
Take Care!!!

And screaming (on a mountain or alone in your car) is O,K.! I do it all the time to release the anger and frustration. You're not hurting yourself or anyone else...
That's why I came to DS...I need to know there were other people out there like me. Our illness is very real.
Never give up-look forward. Sometimes this may be hard., as I just wasted 6 months of my life as I didn't see a doctor., but now am back to being myself. Its a struggle., but keep a powerful mindset and know you too can be a survivor and speak about it and let the ones who dont get it or who don't want to-its their problem, not our.
Best of luck., and sorry for rambling.
