it only took 10 mg of Celexa to send me off to the races. I Have always tried low dose anti depressants and I always get manic. You sounds like you are manic. Only people with BP I get full blown mania. Sounds like your diagnosis is correct

It's been 4 years since I was diagnosed. Sometimes I just wonder if I need all these meds. I was hospitalized twice . One time was full blown mania and the other time I was depressed. Both times it was Prozac. One time without a mood stabilizer and the other time with. I also got mania from taking Lexapro. I just thought I was feeling better from the depression. It was so nice not to worry what everyone thought and to just not worry.

I'll take my diagnosis and meds since that's much better for me than the alternative.

Well there is your lesson, you got hospitalized for being manic and depressed. Normal people dont have that problem. All you need to do it talk to your pdoc about being on two mood stabilizers and cutting out the anti depressant. Any fool knows that those with BP I should never safely take an anti depressant. It may be time to look for a new doctor

First two antidepressants I tried made me even more depressed. Suicidal. Barely survived. Third one I tried made me extremely manic. It was a horrible year. So it really depends on which antidepressant, they can have opposite effects on different people.

I do want to say that I don't think have post partum depression more than once, nor having a manic reaction to an antidepressant just doesn't have anything to do with being bipolar. People without bipolar go through the same things.

I now take Lithium, Lamictal, and Zyprexa. Just started Remeron - last chance at an antidepressant more than likely.

So can you become manic with an antidepressant and not have bipolar?

I have tried tapering off meds and I really get symptomatic - worse than when I was off meds it seems.

Your'e not getting what I say to you, No NO NO normal people do not get manic!

Somehow I haven't got it! It is getting clearer. It's sort of like I have to keep convincing myself over and over! It's been years since this diagnosis began. I always knew I had some bad genes. Ha I really do!

As long as you know you are bipolar and take your meds, your episodes wont get so great..
