I've taken Geodon, and it works somewhat, slow to start (days to a week), and the only side-effect was completely random hypersomnia, that would lay me up for the whole day (until the evening), sometimes more, sometimes less. I work, have a child, and that was unacceptable.

Seroquel, on the other hand, worked in three days, had some tolerable side-effects (muscle tiredness) and some intolerable ones (depression). But low doses of Abilify took care of the depression. Interestingly though, Seroquel stopped my manic eating, and let me drop 10lb. Overall, I would go back to Seroquel (50mg) +Abilify (micro dose, ~0.5mg). However, I think my pdoc will start lamictal on me, and I don't want to start and stop multiple drugs.

I take Geodon now, just increased my dosage actually. It worked miracles at first for me when I was morbidly depressed. Popped me up out of the doldrums. There are some side effects: I had leg twitching for a bit, exacerbated by caffeine. It might make you really sleepy too for a few days. It still makes me sleepy sometimes. Overall, though, I would rate it highly for I am very sensitive to those drugs and do not tolerate them well. Good luck!

You better have a strong heart because there is a warning in the label about it messing with the electrical current in your heart and also I have heard of people that have now got a murmer because of it.

i have been on it for year now i can say for me i never had any side efects with it like others are saying here but it is possable depends on how you respond to meds i was never tired taking it butthatis me i guees

Geodon has been known to cause weight loss, but like all meds it depends on the individual. I initially loved Geodon, until I suffered an extremely rare allergic reaction that left me suffering from lower extremity edema, about 3 months after starting.I've heard of plenty of others who suffered no adverse effects,though.I guess it all depends on your system Best of luck!

My husband Darrell just stoped taking it because he was haveing savere side affects from it. All i can say for u is do your research on any new meds u r going to take so u know the side affects when & if u have them. But all people r different to all meds so the best of luck 2 u sweetie... Started taking this and have been on it for about two weeks. I have NO appetite whatsoever and have to force myself to eat so that I don't forget. It's a strange one.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that sleeping is a thing of the past. I have to really work at getting to sleep at night. goodluck!

Never heard of it..Im on seroquel (which made me gain) but then put on lamictal (which made me lose). together, they balance out for me.

pros, no weight gain, restful and sound sleep, less rage and anxiety...i've seen no cons as of yet. been on it for a couple of months now.

Has worked wonders for me. Helps with keeping the mania under control and has really helped with my depression as well. Does make you sleepy, but for me that wore off pretty quickly. I know it does have side effects you should be aware of, but from what I understand they aren't all that common (face twitches, heart problems, etc)

I first took Geodon in a clinical trial - they started w/40mgs x2 and went up to 80mgs x2. The higher dose just did not work for me (heart palps, etc.). However, the doctor I was seeing thought it would be good for me at a lower dose, and it has. I was also diag'd with ADHD and given Adderall to the bipolar meds. Also, pdoc put me BACK on Prozac (40mgs) as long as I take the GEodon 60mgs daily, that's all. So far, Geodon, Adderall 120mgs daily, Prozac, Klonopin 1mg x 3 and 1 50mg Seroquel at night to aid sleep has worked very well for me. No major side effects like when I tried lamactil, depakote, higher doses of seroquel or lithium (those caused a LOT of weight gain which only made me MORE depressed).

The main "con" I have with Geodon is that it is SO expensive. Now that I am no longer in the clinical trial programs, and have no insurance, I will be running out of Geodon and just don't know what I'm going to do. I receive SSD and what I receive is just about $500 OVER Pfizer's low income guidelines - was turned down first time pdoc applied to them. Going to try again, and again. It's the best that's worked for me in YEARS. Why do they make, and give to us, these wonder drugs, then charge so much till you can't afford the treatment. I'm afraid to have to go off Geodon; afraid the manics and deep depressions will return.

I am currently taking Geodon and have been for about a year now, I am on 60 mgs and am due for a mg change. I have to tell you that it has saved my life, it has been the BEST drug for me. It has helped stabelize my moods, it has helped my self injuring. I do still cut, but not as often. It has helped me not be near as suicidal as I once was! I can't begin to give Geodon enough credit... I hope I've helped you out enough. The only side effect I had with Geodon was Diarrhea for about the first 3 days of starting the drug and each time you have a mg increase. But everyone is different....
