Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I started taking timolol (20mg x day) a few months ago to help with chronic migraines.
Last week I started experiencing a mixed depression (on and off racing thoughts and increased energy). This is the first bipolar episode I've had in a long time and I was just wondering if anyone else has been on timolol and had a reaction like this to it?
Obviously need to stay on it until I speak to a doctor (my PC or neurologist) but just wondering what people's experiences have been.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

This study warns psychiatrists that it can cause hallucinations, depression, confusion, psychosis - and that appears to be in people without previous mental health issues.
It appears to be an old study but I've seen a few more recent ones

Thanks for commenting. I don't have a psychiatrist right now so my best bet will be starting with my primary care or neurologist.
Sorry I didn't reply to your question on my other post. I have cerebral palsy also (if your not familiar think spastic muscles) and I was never able to find a medication that I could tolerate well. For example I loved lithium, until we increased it to a therapeutic level and it gave me muscle spasms so severe they caused me to fall down.
I tend to have have long seasons (several months to almost a year) without major episodes, and the last few have been mild mixed episodes so I've been managing ok without meds up to this point.
Lithium causes shakes in people without CP. I wonder some treatment by something else might work better for you, there are a number which are also used as anti-convulsants but I've no idea if that would make your neurological issues worse or better. There are also a group of anti-psychotics that might work.
