I don't know that Gabapentin really does much for bipolar .... I have it as a prn med...... However I do use it for sleep problems and it helps me when I can't sleep

I used gabepintin for nerve pain. It caused me to hallucinate at night time. Never really heard of used to help bipolar.

Im on chlorpromazine. Its a old med, very sedative but in lower doses is great for a calming state.

Gabapentin is supposedly good for anxiety similar to an antidepressant but without the possible mania. Good for anxiety without being harmful to bipolar, sort of like a benzodiazepine is but without the risk of dependence.

Gabapentin isn't good for bipolar although it's been used for many things off label - so much so that the makers took a multi-million dollar fine.

The studies have concluded that it's only use with bipolar is when someone is admitted to hospital in a distressed state and needs so kind of tranquillizing and then it's marginal.

I don't know why Gaba would ever be RX'd for BiPolar, it's not what its made for and its never shown any significant success for BiPolar treatment.

Topomax is used off-label in the Mood Stabilizer realm I've used Topomax for 12 years now for Cluster Migraines and a Seizure Disorder, it's also had an impact on the BiPolar, a positive one.

Its not generally prescribed solo for BiPolar though, it's usually used in conjunction with other meds.

I was on gabepentin for a while but it didn't help much for anxiety. Currently I take Lithium, Zyprexa, Prozac, Ativan, and Tazodone which seems to be doing a great job, as I am currently stable

I have used Topomax for siezure disorder, as well. Wasn’t a huge fan, but everyone is different. It might take a couple tries to find the right combo and dosage. And I always recommend doing your research. Best of luck on your med journey!

hi, I don't know anything about gabapentin only that sometimes it is used to reat the pain of fibromyalgia. i have taken topamax for several years and have been happy to find a mood stabiliser that does not cause weight gain - though stopping and starting it again might do so. I take it with prozac which also does not cause weight gain. xanax of course does and some other meds i am on - you can't win with them all but you can try to limit the damage, good luck with it. i hope you find a combo that works well for you.
