Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
She is now 20 and is in and out of therapy ,Same has been on a lot of different meds too , she struggles.
I 'm in the same boat , but I think my boat sailed. She is an adult now.
There is so much more to this story about my daughter and BP..
It is hard watching our children be DX with this !
Iam a dughter of a BP mom so I guess it is no surprise I would have a BP daughter. HUGS
My second child, also a girl, just turned 17. She is a senior this year. She is moody and not sleeping, but does not want her meds adjusted because she says I can't fix her with pills. She is very oppositional with me, and blames me for never being there for her. She struggled with anorexia for a while, but kept it hidden very well. Now she is overweight in a serious way, and facing other health issues. Our relationship is very strained.
My older son is 15. He is very intelligent, but does not always remember his meds and hates me reminding him. It is a quandry. Right now he is sullen and withdrawn, with little interest in anything. I know it is because he has been off his Zoloft. So I am reminding him, like it or not, and will wait out the month it will take to see if the med can get back in his system and allow him to function better.
My youngest son is 8. He has ADHD and maybe bipolar. He has some wild mood swings and is showing other signs. I actually will be speaking to his pdoc tomorrow...
All of my children, in fact, have either ADHD or ADD. I know it commonly occurs with bipolar and I am ADD myself.
I have just been so overwhelmed. My younger daughter and I fight all of the time. My oldest daughter cries all of the time. My older son is so withdrawn right now, and my youngest is a roller coaster. Any advice on how to cope without making each other worse? The girls and my youngest are in therapy, as am I, but my older son refuses to go. So I feel helpless right now. They have all gone back to school this week, so they are being thrown a lot of changes. And we are trying to get a house of our own, away from military housing, so that we can finally settle down and not move around any more. Our extended family simply does not get the situation, so I just don't talk to them about it. So it is nice to have a group I can come to for support and answers. Thank you all.
My oldest son is a genius but with ADHD. It was not recognized growing up so he was always in trouble in school, partly because he was bored with the material, but also because if something didn't catch his attention, he made his own fun. He was always disciplined at home, with love - but even in University, which he paid for himself, he had this problem.
About a year ago, he was not sleeping, and finally was diagnosed with bipolar II and anxiety. I did a lot of research, since I am bipolar I, which is very different and has different causes, and ADHD was cited as often developing into bipolar II. I am certain this is heredity, because his birth father also had the same thing.
But I do feel for you, having a house full of bipolar children. Remember, it is not a death sentence, and it can be controlled and managed. I hope you can find support here, and learn some coping skills for yourself, to manage these illnesses.
