Hi everyone. It's been about a year since I've actually been on here. I'm not really a fan of the new layout but I thought I'd return and give it a try again.
I had a really bad few days last week with mania where I didn't sleep for 3 days. My p doc is starting me on lamictal to go along with the trazodone I've been taking for years for my insomnia. The only thing that makes me sleep when I'm having a manic episode is ambien.
My p doc says he has patients that have been on it for years and that right now he wants me to take it for awhile to make sure I sleep. I'm worried about getting addicted though. Anybody else take it for sleep?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

About the medicine your dr gave you - did he say it would take ___ amount of time for it to work? Maybe he forgot to tell you. If Ambien is the only thing how many have you tried? A Friend of mine took Ambien. He drove 4 blocks to his bank's drive thru. He stopped thee feet before the 'basket,' through his car into park. He put it in reverse after about 10, 15 mins. & through it into park again. Some police officers saw him doing all of it and drove up right behind him. He had to do a sobriety field test. They knew of his Dad(retired Captain/CPD)and one of them even remembered my Friend being on the force for a few years. They followed him home and took his keys. He walked to the station to pick them up about 10 hrs. later. My point about telling you this is that Ambien is usually the one people go to because it's so powerful. Maybe your doctor is being cautious? Does he/she know you were up for 3 days? I'd call the doctor immediately ~ you can't keep going w/o sleep. The longest I was up was 50 hours. I ended up in the ER. My daughter called her boyfriend to take me. Afterwards, I thanked her.
I have insomnia and have nothing. I finally got a pain pill from my Internist, after 3 years w/o anything for chronic back pain.
I relied on 2 Benadryl and Gabapentin. I take a pain pill and Benadryl(2)...helps me out, but I have to talk with him again after we clear up all the crap I'm going thru now.
Please talk with your doctor. I worry because I know what it's like to go through insomnia. Best to you.
I think you have to weigh what's in your best interest...... All meds have side effects unfortunately
Big hug......xo
