Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
You can feel so lucky to be able to start new without his bipolar and at the same time be compassionate towards him knowing the pain he must be in not being able to just leave it.
As a woman with bipolar, that is divorced because of the illness (I was not given the correct diagnosis until after my divorce so I never had a chance) I see my ex starting over with his new stable partner. He is happy. He deserves that. I'm happy for him but it is devastatingly painful to know that I can't start over from my bipolar. I miss him terribly and i miss my family. It is very painful, especially knowing that my illness (which I didn't choose as ur ex didn't choose it) caused this.
No matter how your ex-husband may hurt or frustrate u, do u have it inside u to feel compassion for him? U r the non-bipolar one. U have a beautiful stable life ahead of you. Isn't that enough? Find compassion and it will give u patience, understanding and help u during the difficult times.
As bipolar has a genetic factor this is a compassion u may need for one of your children someday. It is something you would ask of your child's ex if his or her spouse were "happily divorced" from your child due to your child's bipolar. Do you understand that?
I am in no way saying your ex is easy, dealing with bipolar is easy or fair. But I am saying that tossing the word "happily divorced" out in ur description of ur relationship with ur ex shows how u feel. It sounds like u have taken out the trash happily. Since u r happy then u can be compassionate.
Set your limits, refuse to engage in things that are clearly unrealistic or unhealthy, encourage a healthy relationship between he and the children when he is stable, protect them when he is not and be thankful that he gave u children and u r happy.
