Does anyone know how much money you can make per month before it affects the amount you receive for Social Security. I am talking about the type of Social Security you heard based on how much money you have paid into the system and then become disabled. Not the type you receive strictly based on your disability. Any help or resources which might address these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I believe it is like 800 or so. I just read it not too long ago, so I THINK I am right, but not 100%

I get the maximum amount because I paid lots of taxes for 25 years. I just need to know how much money I can make without this amount be affected. Thanks again

There is a back to work type thing that allows you to work and earn an unlimited amount of money per month for 18 months, after which you will be reevaluated to see if you are any longer eligible to recieve SSD. Otherwise, up to 800 without having to report it. Anything over that must be reported but will not be affected til after the 18 month reevaluation.

I've seen here on the boards people saying it is $900 a month. But I would call SS to find out for sure.

What you get depends on what you earned in the last 10 years. I will be awarded 1075. You can make a maximum of 862. If you ahve any questions, go to the SSI website or google AGI, annual gross income.

Peter -- The answer is $900 monthly. This amount was just increased in January 2007. It increases every year. Last year it was $860. Hope this helps.

Also, call SS to get a "Ticket to Work". This will entitle you to not only work and make the money without being affected, but also sets up safeguards like if you decided to go to work full time and go off SSDI but suddenly couldn't work because of the disability, you would then be eligable to go right back onto SS without filling out a new application as long as it is within 60 days. There are a few other benefits to. You may want to check them out at the website. www.ssa.gov then do a search on Ticket to work and it will give you all the details and info. Good luck to you.
