WTH?? I never heard of 20mg of prozac once a week for depression. WTH?is that supposed to do and most pdocs will not put their bp patients on prozac bc of the tendency towards mania. That's not even enough to fool with thinking it will make a difference.

Ok, maybe it's time to pull out the big bucks and see a private psychiatrist and get some insight or another opinion or something. As I said, I feel hypo hours after taking it. Still have low moods and right now I'm feeling pretty depressed. And there's some frustration coming in too because I feel like a total idiot. I can't get my work done. My brain is all foggy and shit and i wanna cry and break things and cut and curl up in a ball and... You get the idea.

Yeah, it's time to pull out the big bucks! That's the strangest thing I've ever heard about dosing an AD. I was Dx as unipolar for years and years and I was given prozac and I remember I started at 20 mg and I was up for a couple of days on it..couldn't sleep and really energetic. Now my pdoc wouldn't give me any no matter how hard I begged bc it does stay in the system longer than most AD's but still once a week? It couldn't possibly be in your system that long at 20mg.

I hope you get to feeling better soon but def get another opinion.

Crap. You're so right. Did some reading just now and my dosage is less than a child's. I mean I am built like a child but even they aren't on 20mg weekly. Why would she do that though? I know she doesn't like to use drugs as treatment but if you're gonna prescribe it then prescribe a dosage that will work. And I'm thinking if she was really just experimenting, just checking to see if it would push me into a manic state then she wouldn't prescribe more, would she? I'm confused. I am completely and utterly confused.

If she's experimenting it would take more than that to make you manic I would think. That's why my pdoc is so against it bc he's afraid of me getting manic and it would take me longer to get stabilized bc it stays in your system longer than other AD's.I've had times when I've had such depressive episodes that I beg him to put me on it but he won't. When I was unipolar taking it it really did help. Ofc the dosage kept having to be raised bc I would get used to it. Then I had my first manic episode 7 yrs. ago and I was taken off it.

I probably was misdiagnosed as unipolar all those years bc the prozac did make me kinda speedy.I'm no expert though. I'm just telling you my experience with it.

Well your words are worth a mil cos I have no one else to talk to about this stuff but you guys. And Google :-) I was so excited when she prescribed the ADs cos I thought, "this is it- your depression won't be as bad anymore or as frequent. Hello life." Ha! Hello reality, nothing has really changed.

Oh, I understand the disappointment when you think you've got anything that's gonna help ease the pain and then it doesn't work. We just gotta keep holding out for hope of the search that will help us.
