Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
It means they are rude and nosy. It's just a label like so many others. I have been told I am flat, overreacting, underreacting, loud, too quiet, hyper, inappropriate, etc.
And it's true. I am all of those things and I love them everyone. If someone has a problem with that I usually suggest they go take a break and work on themselves for awhile. Or, overreact.
The only way I see "flat" as a negative is if YOU are unhappy with it.
Another reason that some people may see others as "flat" is if they are not over-reactors. Maybe the person questioning your affect is actually emotionally over-reactive so they see you as flat. Either way, I agree that you cannot let what others think they see be upsetting to you. If you are uncomfortable with the way you feel or see yourself, then talk to your pdoc about it, it may be caused by meds. xo
I'm not flat, I'm rotund. :-)
It has totally blunted and flattened my emotions.
Even my voice has been affected. Speaking in a monotone , I sound really flat.
I feel like I sound boring, but friends and family say I am still funny, and make them laugh...... I don't see that in myself at all.
The psychiatrist anectodally said "Perhaps you might have a touch of Asperger's." Im like "Really dude?".
I do feel flat, though, I really do. Our house is in foreclosure for one, and for another my brian ain't workin' right, so I have the right to act flat, as far as taht dagnab psychiatrist goes.
