Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
When people put up those post saying,"I'm thinking about doing it..." and those sort of things, many of us respond positively saying call the ER or pdoc and things of the sort and we stick with the person until we can tell by their responses that their mood is changing a bit.
Like the one gentleman said in a previous post, I think it's important to exchange phone numbers or some sort of information when you become comfortable with a friend on here.
But regarding the joking, I feel like many of us joke around and are light hearted because it's how we keep each other happy--especially when people are feeling down. And the mindless post help just to keep our minds away from thinking about the nothing we think about when we're alone.
Mystie, when I was going down the other night and hitting a low fast, you kept encouraging me to not kill myself. I didn't broadcast I was going to kill myself, you just paid attention to what I usually write and say vs. how I was writing and thinking that night. Meanwhile, on the boards, almost all jokes.
I also think the more popular people receive advice from everyone, but the more low key people, such as myself, are lucky to get help that one night when I needed it, and it came in the form of two-three people, primarily Mystie.
My postings showing I was going downhill and thinking of ending it quickly were 2nd and 3rd pagers, with maybe 10 comments, no where near 50 or 80 I've seen the more popular people receive.
Just an observation.
Or, maybe I feel like a thread likker because I AM and asshole. I like profanity.
