I LOVE animals! Being around them makes me happier in general. My Great Dane, Freya, passed away toward the beginning of this year and pretty much my whole life has spiraled since then (not saying it is the only reason). She was the light in my life. When I was down, she brought me up. When I was filled with anxiety, she could calm me down. I have chronic pain and fatigue and sometimes can't even find the strength or motivation to even get out of the bed but she would jump around and "ROOOooooOOOO" in my bedroom doorway, run out, run back in, and sometimes jump on my bed and 'attack' me for not getting up. It warmed my heart to even just see her and gave me the motivation that I needed to get up in the morning and get outside to go for our walks and such. She was family and now she is gone. I can't explain the pain in my heart. I've had pets in the past and it really hurts to lose them because I sometimes bond with animals better than I bond with people but this is different...worse.
If you aren't an "animal person" then I can't possibly expect you to understand but for those of you that are, do you feel like you pets are one of the things that anchor you to this world?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I have cats and when I was on my own and depressed the need for me to feed them and give them water everyday actually helped me - the needing to look after something else even if I wasn't really up for looking after myself.
Now, I want a cat!! LOL!
Jax the Beagle...... still waiting for his new forever home - till then he's safe and loved : )

When a pet is lost, I never think twice about finding the next one. I know that each and every one of them will be a unique experience and there is an intolerable void without them.
We have not been petless in over 25 years. Just began dabbling in the little teeny housedog types. My daughter got a Yorkie when her sisters went off to college. Sadly, he was eaten by coyotes. She now has a Boston and I have my Maltese. Lots of love and motivation wrapped up in each one.
My friend recently lost her dog of 19 yrs. She didn't think she could get over it, but she eventually gave a little shelter dog a new home and has been consumed with his care. I know you can't replace your Great Dane with another dog, but it really helped my friend to invite a new dog into her life. Best wishes to you.
I wouldn't have taken her in but my son had too many dogs and asked me if I would take one of them off of his hands. I had all three at my house, one week at a time. I picked Betty in the end.
She truly did save my life. At the time that I got her I was pretty well only getting out of bed to go to the bathroom and eat.
Since she is a pit bull she needs to be outside. It started that I could only walk her a block (my husband took her out the other times) but I loved her so much, I wanted the best for her.
We have gotten to the point that I can walk about 5 miles a day with her.
She gave me a reason to get out of bed and take care of someone.
Made a huge difference to my health and my outlook on things. I even let her sleep with me. She takes up about 3/4 of the bed and I have to be care when I move, in case that I wake her up.
The best thing that ever happened to me was making her a part of my life.
