Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

My 32 year old adult daughter is bipolar and she had a psychotic episode 2 years ago and she was in a psychiatric hospital for about 6 days. She is on meds and is doing well. She now has a good job but gets paranoid at work that people are talking about her. She sent me a text today, "I feel bad, I feel like I'm gonna get fired because I'm not all social like everybody else." I talked to her on the phone and her paranoia sounds unreasonable to me. She says ever since her episode, she feels socially awkward. She has no reason to think she is going to get fired from her job. She usually feels a bit better after talking about it.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this issue.
Your feedback is appreciated.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Situations can trigger an episode so I would encourage her to get some support soon if she's uncomfortable
Does she have a therapist??... If not perhaps she could join a NAMI group in your area for peer support
I would encourage her that she will 'fit in' at her job... Not everyone is a social butterfly and like tommy wrote perhaps she needs a little med tweak or a prn (med to take when necessary)
People are talking about us behind our backs .
But if your daughters paranoia seems over the top, try talking with her gently and a trip to see her psychiatrist might be in order
Meds can reduce or eliminate paranoia
God Bless you. (((hugs)))
Also, at work, I like to listen to music and focus on my tasks. I imagine an energy field and I imagine myself blocking others when focused.
All in all, this group of people go towards making a productive unit and that is what counts.
When your daughter comes to terms with her bp more and realises that it can be controlled in many people by meds etc, then I am sure she will feel happier in the workplace and out. As long as she is doing a good job, I do not see any reason why she should worry about what people may or may not say about her. And yes, we all have bad days sometimes at work, but that is all part and parcel of learning.
From my own perspective, if people aren't talking about me or thinking about me at times, then where in the heck am I!
